About
Robert opened his first IRA at age 15 using earnings from mowing lawns and has been fascinated by personal finance ever since. He is one of the few CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS™ who does not manage any investments. Instead, Robert chooses to focus on financial education and helps empower others to take charge of their financial lives.
Robert attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and served 10 years on active duty in the Coast Guard. After serving in the Coast Guard, Robert was an early employee at FutureAdvisor, a digital investment advisor in San Francisco. FutureAdvisor was later acquired by BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager. He worked at BlackRock for three years before leaving to start his own investment education company. In 2018 he founded Fireside Finances, a company that provides financial wellness programs for some of the nation’s leading companies including Twilio, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and WeWork. In 2021 he started Compound, where he teaches a cohort-based live course on achieving financial freedom.
Robert holds an MBA from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. He volunteers his time as a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters and assists with veteran entrepreneurship through the non-profit, Bunker Labs. Robert lives in the Bay Area with his wife, Jeannie, and their two daughters.
