Pricing
We charge an hourly rate of $360/hour. Examples of two common initial projects are shown below: a retirement plan or an investment withdrawal plan. Prices shown are usually the high-end of the range. There are no ongoing fees when you work with Andrew Marshall Financial, LLC. Future updates or questions are as-needed and charged the hourly rate at that time.
Retirement Planning: Two or more years from retirement.
Single person: $4,800. Couple: $5,900.
Withdrawal Planning: Confident you have enough money to retire.
Single Person: $6,200. Couple: $7,800.
For comparison, a typical AUM financial advisor charges 1% of investment assets. That means someone with $1 million dollars of investments pays fees of $10,000 each and every year. A $2 million dollar portfolio would be $20,000/year, etc. You can do the calculations for your own portfolio size.
About
I am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with a Master’s degree in molecular genetics from the University of Kansas.
I am registered with the State of California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation as a Registered Investment Advisor.
I am a proud member of the Garrett Planning Network. The Garrett Planning Network is a national organization of fee-only financial planners, based in the Midwest, who give objective advice on an hourly basis. I am also a member of the San Diego Chapter of the Financial Planning Association and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
After graduate school, I packed my car and drove out to San Diego to find work in biotech. I worked at two small companies as a laboratory scientist developing new technologies and later manufacturing. The difficulties of affording life in San Diego on a middle-class salary, let alone also saving for retirement, lead me to begin learning about personal finance and investing. I took classes at UC Irvine and completed their Personal Financial Planning certificate program.
In 2015, I started my own fee-only firm which allows me to give the uncompromised advice that is best for my clients. I continue to study financial planning’s best practices and apply them to client situations. I have completed the Financial Planning Association’s Residency Program.
When I am not working, I like playing golf, watching English Premier League soccer, or hiking.

Investing Philosophy:
It is possible to make money by investing using both passive and systematic, active strategies. The essential aspect is knowing what to expect from your strategy in terms of how it will perform in both up and down markets and to stick with that strategy, even when it is not performing well. Getting in and out of the market for emotional reasons leads to bad timing and poor investing returns.
At Andrew Marshall Financial, LLC (AMF) our goal is to match your personality, income needs, time frame, emotions, and other variables to the investment strategy that we recommend for you. AMF recommends low-cost funds the vast majority of the time; however, we believe active management is worth the increased cost over passive management for certain asset classes and can be a good fit for certain investors. There are an increasing number of cost-effective robo-advisors available to investors, and we can help determine the best fit solution for you.
At Andrew Marshall Financial, we take a long-term view of investing. In reality, the stock market goes up most years, and there are few events that will derail your retirement. It is not often that the world is at the beginning of the next global meltdown (like 2008), the next dot-com bubble bursting (like 2000), or the next oil embargo (like 1973).
As an hourly advisor, we are comfortable when our clients hold rental real estate as part of or even the majority of their portfolio. We don’t put any pressure on clients to sell their property and invest in stocks. Rental properties tend to increase in value along with inflation, provide a nice cash flow during retirement, and have tax benefits which make them a valuable contributor to our client’s wealth.
